French translation
« on: July 27, 2008, 01:09:54 am »
Hi,

Nostra, I discovered your program 2 days ago. I admit I’m very enthusiastic about it.

I used AMC so far, which is also a very good soft, powerful and finely settable. But I dreamed of having tables for people and images to collect movie posters, filmographies of directors or actors, and so.

I fell by accident on PVD, it appears to meet all my expectations. In addition, the program is changing very quickly and you are very reactive. Congratulations.

My first contribution : a french translation. I send it you by e-mail.

Regards

Thanks a lot,

Attached the custom.lng file that I used to test the translation.
Of course, I am ready to take into account all remarks and improvements that could make french speakers.

Edit : New release of custom.lng (2008/07/31)

@ Nostra. It seems that the character encoding of the french translation is't the good one in PVD 0.9.8.19 (Windows-1250 instead of Windows-1252) some diacritics are not displayed properly.

Welcome to the forum, Alexxx from Paris. :)

Yes, download custom.lng—nosidor's attachment above. Move it to your installation directory (e.g., C:\Program Files\Personal Video Database). PVD will use it instead of english.rc.

Note that custom.lng is a simple text file. If you would like to change any of the terms used, you may do so with a text editor.

French language is also available in the last standard installation package. To switch languages not using .lng files go to Tools -> Preferences -> Dialogs

 Hi Nostra,

I have translated the English text in French.
I wanted to test it but don't know how to do this.
I'm attaching it to this message, let me know if the format is wrong or if you find problems.

 Thx

Deaz

Thanks, deazo and nosidor.

Rather than forcing nostra to choose, perhaps you could compare each other's translations and agree on a slightly more perfect version? :-\

Our translations are not very different. I hope we will fix this. :)

I made mine as soon as Nostra has posted the new rc file but I waited to test it a bit before posting it here.

I have to admit I was surprised by the message of deazo. :o

@ deazo
To test your translation you must save your file with the name 'custom.lng'. The header must be
 100, "$0c"
 101, "Français"
You must remove the brackets.

Place the file 'custom.lng' in the directory of the application (viddb.exe) and it should work.  ;)

PS : I am of course open to discussion, to improve the translation.

OK Nosidor give me some time, I should be able to have a look and test my version this week.
I'll also try to have a look at yours and see which one I think is best. Are u French?
 I am by the way.

I'll get back to u soon.

D.

Je suis français, effectivement  8)

I compared our files using WinMerge. I could correct a half-dozen errors, mainly strings who had changed of assigment with the new version.
Here is my new corrected version.

Thanks for that tidbit. WinMerge is much better than what I was using before.

Yet to try WinMerge
Have used Beyond compare and found it very good for similar tasks.
