Tech Specs
« on: January 06, 2017, 08:54:08 pm »

Hi Ivek,

First and foremost, a big thanks for all the wonderful work you have done so far and for the help of others. It must have been a time consuming effort for you, but I can read between your lines, you do enjoy the fun of it.

Just a small question if I may, I'm a sucker for tech specs and for some time the IMDB script, I'm using version 0.1.1.2 in the PVD Download Manager skin, doesn't seem to work anymore. I have been looking around a bit but can't find the reason why not. So, is it me or is it simply not possible to import this information anymore. Not a big thing, not that difficult to copy and paste.
Again, just wondering.

Thanks and kind regards,

UtNut

Thanks, well then it must be me.
Any chance you could elaborate on what I'm doing wrong?
I've set a field in Custom called Technical Specs, I've configured the script accordingly in the scroll list eg "Save description in Technical Specs" but it doesn't do that.

If you are using IMDB Movie (tech specs) script, it is not possible,

The easier you'll more detailed answer and explain the matter, if you tell me what you use - the script or plugin.

I'm using the IMDB Movie (tech specs) script on version 09.9.21.

Since I'm a bit of a n00b in these matters it's perhaps a better idea to post some screenshots attached
than to have to go through my waffling.

Thanks.

First, you create a backup of their PVD database.

Then add the database to add this ' Technical Specs: _test ' custom field. In the Scripts folder of the program is attached below IMDB Movie (tech specs) _test script.

Important:

The names of the 'Technical Specs: _test' for a custom field must be such as to scripts that do the test if the IMDB Movie (tech specs) _test script will now function properly.

Please let me know the results of the tests, then will follow further instructions.

Sorry Ivek, I know it's me but I had no results in tests I did.

In my own words this is what I did;

I added a custom field in PVD called "Technical Specs:_test" (no quotation marks of course) type Memo.

I put the psf script file (IMDB Movie (tech specs) _test script) in the scripts folder of the PVD program folder.

Still no give, what am I doing wrong please.

Many thanks for your time and trouble

It's strange all this. For me, all tests work.

Another testing do:

First, download this file - Download Personal Video Database 0.9.9.21.  Then unzip the file and copy it to the a new folder on the other drive.

Then, download this one file - AutoIt script (alternative to portable.bat). Then unzip the file and copy it to the program folder, which is located in a new folder on another drive.

Custom field name remains the same as it is here:

Then add the database to add this ' Technical Specs: _test ' custom field. In the Scripts folder of the program is attached below IMDB Movie (tech specs) _test1 script.

Important:

The names of the 'Technical Specs: _test' for a custom field must be such as to scripts that do the test if the IMDB Movie (tech specs) _test1 script will now function properly.

Now run viddb_p.exe file that the program will be opened in portable form. Then, type in the database this movie title - Apache. Then run just IMDB Movie (tech specs) _test1 script to see if it will now work properly.

Please let me know the results of the tests, then will follow further instructions.

It really is strange, I'm working on Win7 Pro x64 btw and it just doesn't want to import the tech specs.

Now even test it in debug mode, you get a log file. Start debug.bat file in the program folder and PVD will open in debug mode. Again, add the Apache title in database. Now again run the IMDB Movie (specifications) _test1 script. Close PVD and in the program folder find a log.txt file. Attach a copy here (the content of the text can be copied and also add here for any help other users in solving the problem)problem).

Strange, this is what happened. Last December I migrated PVD to a new computer, the Tech Specs stopped working on the old one and never worked on the new one, so that didn't change.
I've cleared and deleted everything related to PVD of the old computer, unzipped the PVD 09 files back to a folder on that computer again and did the Apache test following your instructions (this test is without the portable.bat) and much to my surprise the Tech Specs got imported instantly.
Is it therefore necessary to re-install PVD altogether and build it up from the start again?

To test the other IMDB scripts with Apache test, as well as in the original database with Apache (Apache test title tag so that it will be easier separated from Apache other titles in the database). It will be seen how they operate these IMDb scripts.

The easier I'll then answered this question:
Is it therefore necessary to re-install PVD altogether and build it up from the start again?

It is your decision what you will be better that you do (re-entries movie titles in the database, or copy/paste technical data).

Sorry for my late response, I've been away for awhile.

I've tried everything I could possibly think of, left, right and centre, but to no avail. It works on one machine with a fresh new database, not on the other with a db of nearly 5,000 entries, which I don't want to juggle with as much. So my thought is that in the large db there must be something that refrains the technical Specs from being imported. As I said before, I'm a sucker for these specs but for those flicks that are really are important to me, it's not such a hassle to copy and paste them into the db.

So, thanks for your time and patience Ivek, maybe some time in the future we will be able to solve this, meanwhile it's just control +C and control +P.

There is no problem because of this, so I'm here to help you solve problems, as far as I can and also depends on knowledge.

Otherwise, really a pity, because your problem has not been successfully resolved and you decide to use a simple copy/paste option as I suggested
