UK Date Errors
« on: October 08, 2011, 11:12:56 pm »
Hi, I have found that there seems to be a lot of problems with dates and date conversions.
I assume this is because I am in the UK and we always seem to do things differently here.

Examples of this are:
I cannot 'duplicate' a record after the 12 of the month, I have to do them before or change my system date first.
If I change the date in the 'Date Added' field it switches the month and daye before the 13 of the month.
When I do a filter by date I have to remember to use the american format to make it work properly.

There are more of these but I can't think of them right now.

Thank you in advance.

Is the date format in UK not the same as in Europe??? As I have the German one working pretty well here...

A minor annoyance I'll report now—in case it's somehow related...

[Date Added] includes the time (probably since raldo requested it for [Date Modified] for PvdImport...0.9.9.12). Any attempt to duplicate a record with a [Date Added] that includes the time results in the error...

Quote
conversion error from string "10/03/2011 04:35:26 PM"
Overflow occurred during data type conversion.
Error Code: 14.

Duplicate works fine when the time is removed.

I'm not sure what date format is used in Germany, in the UK it is DD/MM/YYYY hh:mm:ss.

I see what you mean about removing the time. It works fine without it.

What about adding/editing dates and filtering?

Thanks for letting me know.

Two other question I have...

1. Could you tell me what the '(Media) Count' field does please?

I assumed that it was a count of the files associated to the series or film as entered in the 'File Path' field.
No matter what I enter it just resets to 1 whenever I change anything in the File Path field.

Is there any other field I can use that automatically counts the number of files entered into the File Path field?

2. Is there any way of exporting the 'Release Date' associated with each episode? All I seem to be able to get is the Release Date for the series.

I have looked through the list of available fields and it doesn’t seem to be mentioned under episode data and the ‘rdate’ field produces nothing.

The field counts the media a movie is on (CDs, DVDs, BDs, etc.). It will count files if they are on HDD from version 1, so your problem should be solved with it.

Good to know about the 'count' field changes in the new version - thanks.

Is the listing of full Episode information something that will come with this new version?

At the moment there seems to be no way to list things like Duration, Release Date etc. for episodes which would be really useful for creating web pages etc.

Export will be improved in future, so you can expect episodes to be exported properly in one of the next releases.

That's good to hear. Thanks

Where is the best place to download the latest version from?

I assume that once it is installed it will update automatically?

I post the beta releases in Version 1 [Testing] section. The update feature works currently only for stable releases.

Another question for you...

I use multiple boot drives and I physically remove the current hard disk and then place a different one into my computer using a hard drive rack system.
This means that the C Drive is always changing but all my other drive remain unchanged.

Is there any way I can place the export template files somewhere other than on my C Drive?
I was wondering if they could go under '\My Documents\Personal Video Database\Templates\' for example but I can't see any way of pointing the program to look there.

Again, if this is not an option now, could it be included in the new version.

There is no such possibility, but you can just install (copy) PVD on the hard drive that is always connected. You will probably want to use the application in portable mode for this to work on all of your systems...

Do I need to install the application if I'm running it in 'portable' mode?

I was wondering if it would make any difference to the speed and/or stability if I simply copied it to a location and ran it from there.

In fact, you should just copy it if you plan to use PVD in portable mode. If you install it, then unnecessary registry entries and shortcuts will be created.
