File scanner - Change path
« on: June 03, 2012, 12:50:15 pm »
Hi Nostra,

Would it be possible to display previous path when file scanner detects a "change path"
This would help when deciding whether to change path or not.

A hover "tooltip" type solution would be fine.

Thanks

Good to hear.

The whole "scan movies" dialog could be a bit clearer about what happens if PVD detects a movie title matching one already in the database. I often find myself adding movies that are from different studios but have the exact same title. Through trial-and-error I found that when "Change path" appears as the action in the scan results, I have to change it to "add new movie", set the regular "title" field to something like "movie name (studio)", and CLEAR the "original title" field, in order to avoid accidentally overwriting the existing/older title in my database. IIRC, forgetting to clear "original title" leads to the older record still being overwritten, even though "add new movie" was selected. There needs to be an easier, less ambiguous way to do this. (Changing the action to "add new movie" really should add a new movie record without my having to do the other steps I listed.)

On the other hand, I also sometimes find myself trying to add movie files that actually are duplicates of older ones, and I really only want to keep records for one set, so I wouldn't want handling of duplicate titles to be completely automatic either...

So, can suggest a definite idea on how it could be accomplished?

Hi Nostra,
Congrats on new version - it is looking really good.

Just bumping this topic as it may have fallen off your radar ;).

In response to AIMHere.
All that is really required is to know old path/details. We can then manually check if an update or change is required.
To make it really useful, maybe have the old path as a click-able link that would open the record in a new window.
That would allow full verification of details and allow us to make a judgement on whether to update or not.

Cheers
