Movies you recently wasted your time watching

 This happens to me a lot....I chose the wrong movie to watch.
 Then my partner goes to bed in the middle of it and I stay until the end just because I hope things are going to get better...and they don't.

 So I thought it would be fun to list these recently watched movies that are worth deleting from PVD or at least from the Hard Drive.
 In the past 2 weeks:

This is going to hurt. Although I think that any movie rated less than 6.0 is to be considered as a "waste of time", I'll paste here only list of those with my rating <5. I call this list "To avoid at any cost". Hyomil  will be shocked by my rating of "Azumi", for instance

Ratings interpretation:

0.5-1 It should be banned by Constitution to make such movies.
1-2    Director should be permanently banned for shooting movies.
2-3    People from credits must see the movie as many days as it took to shot the film, plus the every day of it's distribution.
3-4    In order to be allowed to produce such movies, producers must give the same amount of money to charity funds.
4-5    Waste of money (producer's and yours)
5-6    Waste of time.

Posting just the most recent wastes of time is unlikely to yield many movies in common.

I also used to watch movies that seemed bad all the way to the end, but I've set a semi-arbitrary time limit of 20 minutes that if I don't like a movie by then I'll make myself shut it off.  Occasionally I'll go 30 minutes, but if I'm even thinking at all about checking the time, its a bad sign.  Also, I've got so many other things I'm excited about watching stockpiled now, so its not as difficult to give up on what I'm watching.  When I stop watching a TV series, though, I still like to mark the episode that I dropped it on, in case I want to come back to it, although I know I almost certainly never will.  On listal.com, a number of list-makers include the episodes that they dropped the series as if to say "Well, that was my breaking point; who could watch any more after seeing that?"

I also rate things with 5 as average and anything less than that being a waste of time to see; when choosing ratings below 5, its just a matter of choosing how much the film's redeeming qualities count for or sometimes wanting to reserve a special rating of dislike for other movies to convey just how awful they are.

Shocked that I gave it the exact same 4 rating?  I did see the sequel Azumi 2, nevertheless, hoping it would be better, but gave that a 4 too.  (I have a 50-item list of "Females Fighting" movies I didn't like here and the ones I did like here.)  I like the star, Aya Ueto, though, and suggest the J-Dramas she was in Attention Please and Hotelier.  I'm always disappointed when good actors are in bad movies because then many will write them off and never see the good stuff they were in.  Occasionally, even good actors' acting is weak in some movies.

Well, I've got you beat by feeling like I wasted my time with 303 movies.  Clearly I'm not very good at picking, but I feel like I'm getting better, though I'd have to start keeping track of the dates I view movies to verify that.  Part of the problem is I haven't found any reviewers I generally agree with, so I usually pick movies just based on the actors or what's popular (a particularly unsuccessful, yet hard-to-break strategy).  I plan to get all the tones, themes, moods, etc. from Allmovie.com, do some Advanced Searches, and see if I can find any frequent occurrences.

Looking through my lowest-rated movies, some I can't even remember, some I could say are just not my type (horror, gore, animated movies intended for kids, gross-out comedies, art-house plotless or surreal movies), while others still boggle my mind at how anyone could've liked them and when I see them as 10/10 in other people's lists, I find it difficult to take any of their other recommendations.

Sorry Hyomil, I was totally convinced I saw Azumi on you listal 10/10 list. 

Well, considering that I saw 114 movies rated 1-4,9 meaning that I still didn't reach "waste of time" stage, and that I saw 390 movies rated 5-5,9 ("waste of time" stage reached ;P), and that you saw 303 movies rated with your "waste of time" scale, the question arises:

Which one of us is greater time waster?

Or, is this just another proof that the time is relative (in terms of wasting, of course )?

 I have checked your favorite films on Listal and was doubly stunt to find "Angel-A" in your top 15.
 This would be at 1.5 I think in my own list if I had bothered to put it in.

I've rated 665 total, so 303/665=45%.  So at least I can still say the majority of the movies I watch I don't find a waste of time.   I've also marked 784 as Not Interested using a custom item after researching them, so I think of that as gaining back time I've lost.

I think you mean "stunned."

Kung Fu Hustle I was particularly disappointed with because I've liked other Stephen Chow movies (The King of Comedy, God of Cookery, A Chinese Odyssey:Part One, though not Part Two) and will continue to try more.  Couldn't even finish that one, though; found it forced, annoying, and unfunny.  Shaolin Soccer, the other of his released in the US, I gave a 6.  The others I saw so long ago I don't remember much about, but I haven't seen anything with John Malkovich or Johnny Depp that I liked.

I've found it discouraging as well.  On listal, there's a Compatibility Rating area when you go to the movies page on your profile where you can find the users who are most compatible with you ratings-wise.  I've yet to find anyone, though, without some "stunning" choices for their highest-rated movies.  If you Follow some of these users, though, you'll get on every movie page on listal a display of which of your Followed users has seen that movie, their ratings, and an average of all their ratings.  I'm thinking now its best to just Follow a bunch of users who like *some* of the same movies as you and go by the average of all of their ratings since for any given user there's always going to be movies that you rate 1/10 and they rate 10/10.  I don't see any way to do this on Rotten Tomatoes.

Netflix.com has a vast database of users, and has spent large amounts of money trying to develop an automated recommendation system.  I've given it 1800 ratings, yet I'd say its given me maybe 5 recommendations (out of several hundred) that I queued to watch, and I've seen many make similar comments.  I'll keep looking for something better, though.

Yes, http://www.criticker.com/profile/hyomil.  Biggest problems:
1. No support for TV shows nor plans to.
2. Titles for foreign-language films can't be set to display the English translation instead, making them practically impossible to recognize.  So you look to the thumbnails, which are very small and not even of the movie posters.  If you could do searches using the IMDb ID, this would help, but you can't, despite the fact that all their movies have an IMDb ID on their page.  If anyone knows of a search engine that allows searching for substrings in URLs within pages, please post.
3. You have to fill out a form to add new movies, including all the actors, when they could easily just import them from IMDb.  listal auto-imports IMDb's data when you enter an IMDb URL.  I made a new post about this here: http://www.videodb.info/forum_en/index.php?topic=2063.msg10421#msg10421

It does have the auto-updating Probable Score Index and Taste Compatibility Index going for it, though.  I made a post on the forum pointing out features listal has that criticker doesn't and it was never posted, so that made me leery of their site as well.  If they add these features, I'll give them another chance, but I've been monitoring the RSS feed of their blog for over a year and there have been few changes.

Yes, this is next on my ToDo list after examining the Allmovie tones, moods, and themes.  I'm going to compare those against Jinni's genes.  Interesting thing about them is they're usually generated not by someone manually picking them but by feeding a bunch of movie reviews into a Natural Language Processing program that selects the appropriate genes based on the wording of the reviews.  So the ability they have to Vote yes or no on each gene is quite needed and appropriate.
