help! odd preferences crash :/
« on: June 28, 2009, 12:35:13 pm »
hi there,

somehow my pvd settings got f*cked up (I suspect a certain female who still pretends to be innocent) ...

when I started pvd this morning at first I thought the database is corrupt - all movie entries just showed the audio codec. everything else was gone.
as adding 10400 movies took a bit of time (and the last backup was some weeks ago) I suffered a severe heart attack.
I recovered though when I noticed that only the settings has been set back to some "minimal factory default".
the fields werent gone - just the visibility was unchecked.
most other settings were set in a rather minimalist way too.
thank god I could reset them all to their beloved and useful setting.

except the list colors - which were all set to black btw.
no matter how convincingly I set them to everything from pink to mud at the preferences - the list stays black on white. for all entries.
which is a bit ... tiresome ...

so, I'd like to formulate a request: HELP!
someone please help me!
please!

thanks :)

1. Stop PVD
2. Open the file pvdconf.ini located in "C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data\Personal Video Database\"
3. Remove everything in section [Colors] to make PVD load default colors (which should be OK)

Strange ??? What what the last thing you have done with PVD before the problem appeared?

hey, it took 14 minutes until you personally solved my problem on a sunday!
that's impressive :)

deleting the colorsection worked, now I can change them too. THANKS!

the last thing I did was ... hmm ... just using it like every day.
but I really suspect my girlfriend did something totally random when she wanted to watch some movie last night.
usually she tries all available programs, clicks on all colorful buttons and presses lots of keys.

so I guess we should just forget it :)

once again - many thanks, nostra!

For version 1.0, we'll bump the design objective from "idiot-proof" to "girl friend-proof." To ensure our ongoing safety, this shall hereinafter be referred to simply as GFP. This should not be confused with WAF ("wife acceptance factor"). Wives, being perfect, do not make mistakes—they only have preferences we can never know. ;)

got the same problem. Deleting the values in colors section has reset the values in the file to default. Nevertheless, list stays just black on white. Any idea? I am using version 0.9.9.21 portable.

I am using version 0.9.9.21 portable.

If you're running with the portable switch, then your pvdconf.ini file is in the same folder as the program. Is that the one you edited?

There is only in the tree and it is under data\. It must be the correct one since after I started PVD, the settings in color section have been changed to default values in INI. Also the color configuration page itself in the app shows the correct colors now. But the list remains black on white.

Thanks
