import the longest user comment
« on: May 19, 2010, 08:24:54 am »
Please, please consider to add additional feature to IMDb plug-in:

To be able to import the longest user comment (also as the longest plot)!

This feature would definitely prevent me to exit PVD, to go to the internet to read comments in order to decide whether or not to watch a movie.

It seems to me that neither non-existed suggested feature is so important as this one. I just think it's not efficient and desirable to leave PVD while browsing movies!

Thank you in advance nostra.

I will add comments download to the plugin, but is the longest comment really the best one? I think it is better just to load the one showing up on the main page of the movie...

Thank you!!!

I elaborated once why I thought it was reasonable to import the longest comment:

Quote
2. Reviews: This is something I miss the most in PVD. Importing the longest comment from IMDb for instance would be considerable while deciding whether to watch the movie or not by several reasons:
- If someone wrote a long comment, that means he/she really has something to say about the movie.
- Then, I look at the literacy of it.
- Then, I look at the consistency of text.
- At the end I look to the point of comment and decide to watch the movie or not, or at least what to have on my mind if watching it. Or, it could help me to shape my own opinion about the movie. I never take care of movie plots, because by deduction you could always reduct it to the oldest and the original cliche since Old Testament - fight of good and evil.

Great news, nostra, really!

oops, I have made a huge mistake :) in the version 0.9.3.0, get 0.9.3.2 instead.

Hell yes, that was fast.

Yes, I can see the new "User Reviews" field!

I think only one little tweak is needed.

1. When there no comments were found on IMDb, the following text (rather code) is displayed:
Code: [Select]
<form method="post" action="/updates"><input type="hidden" name="auto" value="legacy/title/tt0969338/"><button
type="submit" class="primary" onclick="(new Image()).src='/rg/maindetails-title/tconst-update/images/b.gif'">Update</button>

oops, I have made a huge mistake...

...so huge it took you 14 minutes to fix and repost. ;)

But there's still a few minor glitches...

1. The drop-down for the custom field selection still doesn't populate. It does accept whatever is typed in.

2. Some spaces between words are missing. It looks like line feeds are not being replaced with spaces.

It is. The main page comment is the "best" according to user votes. Length is no measure of quality or usefulness.

A checkbox could be added as an option to IMDb plugin: "Import the longest user review", so it would be similar to other checkbox options already exist.

To be honest, I do not think it is important enough to add such an option.

OIC. So it seems I've made a huge mistake. Maybe I'll find time to review the series this summer. I can't bear the thought of being such a cultural moron. ;)
