Background colors are easy to change in the skins. PVD condensed uses $FFEFCF, if I remember correctly, so to change to a light blue you can go to the PVD install directory, in the skins -> movies section and select the condensed skin. Open with your favorite text editor and do a REPLACE ALL on $FFEFCF.
Here's a color chart that will give you an idea of what color code to use (copy the code and add a '$' to the beginning...like $FFEFCF).
