PVD on NFS running Linux 2.5
« on: December 13, 2009, 07:49:21 pm »
Hi

I am new to this and love the idea of this software. I am considering getting this NAS:

http://www.synology.com/enu/products/DS210j/index.php

It can allow 3rd party apps which is incredible! The main reason for this setup is I wish to have all my DVDs stored on a central location (this product is like a mini PC itself, but isnt a PC. 3rd party apps can be installed - hence why I am here) which can be accessible by any device which can connect to a network. Thus allows each device to watch any DVD I put onto this system.

Here is the documentation for this device for adding 3rd party apps (I am not expecting someone to read it all thoroughly):

http://download.synology.com/download/ds/userguide/Synology%20NAS%20Server%203rd-Party%20Apps%20Integration%20Guide.pdf

I have read threw some of the documentation and it kind of blew me away for the moment.

I have seen other posts from 2008 stating difficulties PVD and linux...but it is now end of 2009 and i have hope... basically this NFS uses linux 2.6 (Page 5 in PDF) I have read people using 'wine' to run PVD...but I am unsure if wine supports linux 2.6 - it mentions linux 7. There are so many things to consider here, I thought i would seek any help/direction here before proceeding down any other avenues, as someone here may tell me it will never work - in which case I wont look any further.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Alan
