Optimize Problem
« on: August 18, 2009, 10:24:01 pm »
I'm using 0.9.9.11 and when I try to Optimize the DB, I get the error 'Failed' by Create Backup and Garbage Collection. It then says 'Movies Deleted:0' and 'People Deleted:0'. It used to work. The DB doesn't appear to have any problems. Does anybody know what's wrong?

That's the behaviour I observe if I attempt to optimize when connect via server.

How do I change it to connect differently. I don't see a Preference setting. Thanks.

Do you mean File -> Open? I don't see a Database menu. File -> Open doesn't have any options. Thanks.

Use Open instead of Connect to server.

I wasn't using Connect to Server. I use File -> Open. Is there something else? Thanks.

What is the path for the backups and does pvd have access to this folder?

I'm using My Documents\Personal Video Database as the folder for the main DB file and the backup.

I installed Firebird Maestro. Could that be messing it up? Thanks.

It could, theoretically, but should not...

What is the exact path (with filename) for the backup in "Optimize database" dialog?
Could you post your pvdconf.ini from "C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data\Personal Video Database\"

Strange, everything seems to be OK. I have only one explanation left: your database is corrupt :(
Is it possible for you to upload it to my FTP?

It's 170 MB. Is there a way to repair it? Thanks.

I can handle 170 MB.

Is there a way to repair it?

1. Download http://www.videodb.info/bin/fbtools.rar
2. Extract the package to the PVD directory
3. Create a backup copy of your database file
4. Execute in command line: gfix -v -f [database copy].pvd
5. If gfix reports that the file is corrupt, then execute: gfix -m -i [database copy].pvd
6. Do the 4. one more time to check if the database is fixed

For us hopeless unilingual folk, I assume "[копия базы]" means "[copy of database]"? ;D

When I try 'gfix -v -f movies.pvd' at the command prompt nothing seems to happen. Just a new line appears

c:\Users\James\Documents\Personal Video Database\fbtools>gfix -v -f movies.pvd (I hit Enter here)

c:\Users\James\Documents\Personal Video Database\fbtools>

Any ideas? Thanks.

It should mean that everything is ok with the low level db structure...
